Joint Specialists in the Greater New Orleans Area

Committed to serving Metairie and the surrounding areas, our doctors work with you to deliver the high-level, specialized care you deserve. With their extensive training and years of experience, our joint replacement doctors are experts in the treatment of various joint injuries and conditions, including osteoarthritis, hip impingement, and post-traumatic arthritis.

Nonsurgical treatment options will be recommended first when developing an individualized treatment plan. These methods may include receiving physical therapy, wearing a brace, or taking over-the-counter medication. These nonsurgical approaches can reduce or even eliminate joint pain.

If nonoperative care is ineffective or becomes less effective over time, our joint replacement surgeons will discuss surgical options with you to help you determine which surgery is right for you. Our surgeons have the expertise and exceptional skills needed to perform the required surgery as well as access to the latest surgical equipment, which helps ensure the best outcomes possible.

Our surgeons are prepared to educate you and answer any questions you may have regarding your recommended surgical options.

  • Common Conditions

With years of experience and orthopedic training, our joint doctors assess, diagnose, and treat joint injuries as well as other conditions that can develop in the joint, such as hip fractures, hip impingement, osteoarthritis, and post-traumatic arthritis.

Hip Fracture

Symptoms

  • Severe pain in the hip or groin area
  • Inability to bear weight on the affected leg
  • Swelling, bruising, stiffness, or deformity of the affected leg

Causes

  • Trauma to the hip joint, often due to a fall
  • Weakened bones due to osteoporosis or other bone diseases

Please note that hip fractures require immediate medical attention, as they can lead to major complications.

Hip Impingement (Femoroacetabular Impingement)

Symptoms

  • Pain in the hip or groin area during physical activity
  • Stiffness and reduced range of motion in the hip and leg
  • Clicking or popping sounds during movement and pain with prolonged sitting

Causes

  • Abnormalities in the shape of the hip joint, including a bony overgrowth or a shallow hip socket
  • Repetitive stress on the hip joint, such as from athletic activities that require frequent hip flexion or rotation
  • Previous hip injury or trauma

Osteoarthritis

Symptoms

  • Pain and stiffness in the joint, especially after periods of inactivity or overuse
  • Swelling and tenderness around the joint
  • A crunching or grinding sensation when moving the joint or bearing weight

Causes

  • Age-related wear and tear on the joint cartilage
  • Repetitive stress on the joint from sports or activities that require kneeling or squatting for long periods
  • Any activity or weight that puts extra strain on the joint long-term

Post-Traumatic Arthritis

Symptoms

  • Pain, stiffness, and swelling in the affected joint after an injury
  • Decreased range of motion
  • Grinding or cracking sensation when the joint is moved

Causes

  • Previous joint injury or trauma, such as a fracture, dislocation, or ligament tear, can damage the joint surfaces and cause abnormal wear and tear or joint dysfunction, leading to post-traumatic arthritis

Treatment Options

  • Anterior Hip Replacement
  • Joint Replacement
  • Joint Revision
  • Partial Knee Replacement

Our experts offer a wide array of traditional treatment methods as well as state-of-the-art surgeries, including anterior hip replacement, joint replacement, joint replacement revision, partial knee replacement, and robotic-assisted joint replacement.

  • Anterior Hip Replacement

Anterior hip replacement is a surgical procedure that involves accessing the hip joint from the front of the body, rather than the back or side, allowing for less muscle and tissue damage during the surgery.

    Benefits

    • A shorter hospital stay, a faster recovery time, and less pain and scarring compared to traditional hip replacement surgery
    • Better preservation of the surrounding muscles
  • Joint Replacement

Joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which a damaged joint is replaced with a new joint implant made of specialized artificial materials. Joint replacement can be performed in a traditional hospital setting or in an outpatient facility that allows the patient to recover at home.

    Benefits

    • Reduced pain and discomfort in the joint
    • Improved mobility and range of motion
    • Ability to resume normal activities of daily living that were previously limited by joint pain
  • Joint Revision

A joint replacement revision is a surgical procedure that is performed when an existing joint replacement has been compromised. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the old implant and replacing it with a new one.

    Benefits

    • Reduced pain and discomfort in the joint
    • Improved mobility and range of motion
    • Addresses complications that may have arisen from the original joint replacement surgery (such as infection, implant loosening, or joint instability)

  • Partial Knee Replacement

Partial knee replacement is a surgical procedure that involves replacing only the damaged part of the knee joint with an artificial joint implant, leaving the healthy bone and cartilage intact.

    Benefits

    • Smaller incision, reduced blood loss and pain, and a faster recovery time compared to total knee replacement surgery
    • Preserves more of the natural knee joint, which can be beneficial for younger, more active patients
