About Dr. Junius, III

A New Orleans native, R. William Junius III, MD, has a passion for bringing his patients the latest innovations and minimally invasive treatment options at Crescent City Orthopedics. As an athlete himself, Dr. Junius understands the demands that injured athletes face, and he strives to get the men and women of Metairie, Louisiana back on the court or field as quickly and safely as possible.

Dr. Junius' impressive athletic career began in high school where he set state records in the javelin, earning him a scholarship to Tulane University. Throughout college, he continued to excel in athletics, and in 1996, he qualified for the Olympic Trials.

Sadly, an injury prevented him from performing. Even with this dedication to athletics, Dr. Junius excelled academically, graduating summa cum laude and earning the Gerald M. Gussack M.D. award for graduating first in his class in  cell and molecular biology at Tulane University.

His injury and recovery inspired him to pursue further training in orthopedics, and he attended Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. After scoring in the 97th percentile on his national board exam, he was awarded a residency position in Texas in orthopedic surgery.

After completing his orthopedic residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Dr. Junius returned to his roots in New Orleans. He practiced as a physician partner at Audubon Orthopedics and Sports Medicine from 2006 to 2010.  To provide the best patient care possible, Dr. Junius  established Crescent City Orthopedics  in 2011.  Under his leadership, Crescent City Orthopedics expanded rapidly adding the expertise of Dr. Scott Buhler in 2013. In 2015, Crescent City Orthopedics merged with The Bone and Joint Center of Metairie and moved into a new, state- of-the-art facility at 3600 Houma Boulevard offering digital x-ray, on-site physical therapy, and MRI services. Dr. Junius continues to practice at Crescent City Orthopedics  with a sub-specialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine.

As the head team physician for Rummel High School from 2006 through 2014, Dr. Junius assisted in their two Louisiana State Football Championship victories.  He turned over the reigns to Dr. Scott Buhler in 2015 who has continued the tradition of excellent medical care at Rummel to the present. This transition has allowed Dr Junius to focus on providing treatment options not commonly offered in the New Orleans community.  Specifically, Dr. Junius has most experience in the region with the Oxford partial knee replacement system.  The Oxford partial knee replacement is a minimally invasive alternative to total knee replacement that has been shown to provide better, more natural range of motion and a quicker recovery, with a lower risk of complications.  Because of the required training and intricacy of the procedure,  the Oxford partial knee replacement is unfortunately not offered to many patients by other surgeons in the region.  Dr. Junius has been selected by the manufacturer of the Oxford to be part of an elite group of eight Orthopedic Surgeons across the country to teach the procedure to other interested surgeons.

Another area in which Dr. Junius sub specializes include Direct Anterior Total Hip Replacement.  This method of hip replacement avoids damage to the surrounding muscular structures of the hip joint during replacement allowing for early discharge from the hospital with most patients walking normally within 2 weeks of surgery.

Dr. Junius is also offering robotically assisted, minimally invasive joint replacement surgery.   In addition to computer navigation, this procedure utilizes robotic assistance to more precisely position the joint replacement implants possibly increasing implant longevity.

Dr. Junius works hard to make New Orleanians as active and healthy as possible.be.. He, his wife, and their six children returned after Katrina and plan to perpetually call New Orleans home.
