Together, they make up a team committed to your recovery by offering the latest in orthopedic technology and procedures for all your needs.

Committed to serving Metairie and the surrounding areas, our doctors work with you to deliver the high-level, specialized care you deserve. With their extensive training and years of experience, our knee doctors are experts in the treatment of various knee injuries and conditions, including, sprains and osteoarthritis.

Nonsurgical treatment options will be recommended first when developing an individualized treatment plan. These methods may include receiving physical therapy, wearing a brace, or taking over-the-counter medication. These nonsurgical approaches can reduce or even eliminate knee pain.

If nonoperative care is ineffective or becomes less effective over time, our knee surgeons will discuss surgical options with you to help you determine which surgery is right for you. Our surgeons have the expertise and exceptional skills needed to perform the required surgery as well as access to the latest surgical equipment, which helps ensure the best outcomes possible.

Our surgeons are prepared to educate you and answer any questions you may have regarding your recommended surgical options.

  • Common Conditions

With years of experience and orthopedic training, our knee doctors assess, diagnose, and treat knee injuries as well as other conditions that can develop in the knee, such as knee ligament injuries and meniscus tears.

Bursitis

Symptoms

  • Swelling around the joint
  • Pain and tenderness when pressing on the affected area
  • Limited range of motion in the joint

Causes

  • Repetitive pressure or friction on the joint, such as leaning on hard surfaces, playing contact sports, and repetitive tasks
  • Direct trauma or impact to the joint, such as a fall or blow
  • Infection or inflammation of the bursa sac that cushions the joint

Knee Ligament Injuries

Symptoms

  • Pain and swelling in the knee joint
  • Difficulty walking or bearing weight on the affected leg
  • Instability or a feeling that the knee is giving way or buckling

Causes

  • Sudden twisting or impact to the knee, such as during sports or a fall
  • Overuse or repetitive stress on the knee joint, which can weaken the ligaments over time
  • Improper training techniques or poor form during physical activity

Meniscus Tear

Symptoms

  • Pain and swelling in the knee joint
  • Difficulty bending or straightening the knee
  • A popping or clicking sensation when moving the knee

Causes

  • Sudden twisting or impact to the knee, such as while playing sports or through a fall
  • Degenerative changes in the knee joint that make the meniscus more prone to tearing

Osteoarthritis

Symptoms

  • Pain and stiffness in the joint, especially after periods of inactivity or overuse
  • Swelling and tenderness around the joint
  • A crunching or grinding sensation when moving the joint or bearing weight

Causes

  • Age-related wear and tear on the joint cartilage
  • Repetitive stress on the joint from sports or activities that require kneeling or squatting for long periods
  • Any activity or weight that puts extra strain on the joint long-term

Sprain

Symptoms

  • Pain and swelling in the area
  • Difficulty moving or bearing weight on the affected joint

Causes

  • Twisting or turning a joint in an awkward way
  • Overuse of a joint, resulting in compromised ligaments
  • Participating in high-impact sports
  • Improper footwear or exercising on uneven surfaces

Treatment Options

  • Arthroscopic Repair
  • Joint Replacement
  • Joint Revision
  • Knee Ligament Reconstruction
  • Partial Knee Replacement

Our experts offer a wide array of traditional treatment methods as well as state-of-the-art surgeries, including, arthroscopic repair, bursectomy, and knee ligament reconstruction.

  • Arthroscopic Repair

Using an arthroscope, or small surgical camera, the surgeon repairs damaged tissue or removes loose fragments in the joint. This allows for better movement and reduced pain. Arthroscopic repair is a minimally invasive surgical technique, meaning it allows for smaller incisions and less tissue damage compared to traditional open surgery.

    Benefits

    • Improved joint function and range of motion
    • Reduced pain and swelling in the affected joint
    • Faster recovery time and shorter hospital stay compared to open surgery

  • Joint Replacement

Joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which a damaged joint is replaced with a new joint implant made of specialized artificial materials. Joint replacement can be performed in a traditional hospital setting or in an outpatient facility that allows the patient to recover at home.

    Benefits

    • Reduced pain and discomfort in the joint
    • Improved mobility and range of motion
    • Ability to resume normal activities of daily living that were previously limited by joint pain
  • Joint Revision

A joint replacement revision is a surgical procedure that is performed when an existing joint replacement has been compromised. During the procedure, the surgeon removes the old implant and replacing it with a new one.

    Benefits

    • Reduced pain and discomfort in the joint
    • Improved mobility and range of motion
    • Addresses complications that may have arisen from the original joint replacement surgery (such as infection, implant loosening, or joint instability)

  • Knee Ligament Reconstruction

In a knee ligament reconstruction, the surgeon replaces a torn or damaged ligament in the knee joint with healthy tissue. This is typically taken from another part of the patient's body or from a donor. Ligament reconstruction can be performed as an open or closed, minimally invasive arthroscopic procedure.

    Benefits

    • Restores stability and function to the knee joint
    • Reduces the risk of future injuries or long-term joint damage
    • Allows patients to return to sports and other physical activities at pre-injury levels
  • Partial Knee Replacement

Partial knee replacement is a surgical procedure that involves replacing only the damaged part of the knee joint with an artificial joint implant, leaving the healthy bone and cartilage intact.

    Benefits

    • Smaller incision, reduced blood loss and pain, and a faster recovery time compared to total knee replacement surgery
    • Preserves more of the natural knee joint, which can be beneficial for younger, more active patients
